Marlboro-Milton Bocce League

Official Rules 2013

 

These are the most current rules as of June 24, 2013.

 

  1. In order to have voting power in the league, one must be on the roster the preceding Bocce season.

  2. Each team's roster is to include:

    • No more than ten (10) players

    • The captain's name and telephone number

    • Each member's name and telephone number

 

NOTE: The rosters are to be turned in no later than the third week of play.

 
  1. Each team must have a minimum of four (4) players on their roster.

  2. A player may only play for one (1) team.

  3. Matches consist of three (3) games.

  4. Each game consists of twelve (12) points.

  5. Maximum number of players to start a game:

    • Four (4) players with a maximum of two (2) balls per player.

    • Two (2) players at each end of the court.

  6. Minimum number of players to start a game:

    • Two (2) players with a maximum of two (2) balls per player.

    • One (1) player at each end of the court.

  7. Only (4) players from each team are allowed on the court during a game.

  8. There are to be no additions to a team once the first ball of a game has been rolled.

PENALTY: If two (2) teams allow one or more players to enter after the start of the game, then both teams lose three (3) games.

  1. There will be no substitutions after the first ball of the game has been rolled.

  2. In the event of extreme adverse weather conditions, Captains, will determine if the court is in playable condition.

  3. Players are prohibited past mid-court during game.

PENALTY: If a team's member crosses the mid-court line, then that team's closest ball to the polline is removed.

  1. Players will not change end of the court after the start of the game.

  2. The polline must be past mid-court line in order to be in play.

  3. Team has one (1) throw then passes to the other team. If they miss it goes back to the first team.

  4. The outside perimeter of the court consists of a regular rectangular barrier, (timbers) any ball going beyond the barrier is a dead ball.

  5. Any ball hitting the high backboard and returning to the court is a playable ball.

  6. If wrong color ball is thrown, it is to be replaced with the correct color ball.

  7. If the polline is ejected out of the court, then the round is dead, and it is to be played over again.

  8. If the polline is moved onto player's side of mid-court line, then the round is dead and it is to be played over.

  9. Sponsors may play on one team and sponsor another.

  10. If a team forfeits twice in one round, then it will be eliminated from playing in the league, but may still attend social functions by paying the full price of said functions.

  11. A new team may replace said team at the beginning of the second round.

  12. In the event of a fire emergency, the game may be stopped. If stopped, it is to be played on the next Saturday night. The game is to be started at the stopping point or substitutions for firemen may be made if opposing team captain agrees, then said game may be continued.

  13. An play-off games that are rained out will be played the next night, therefore moving each succeeding game up one night.

  14. Play-offs are to begin the week after regular play.

  15. The sponsor of the the league championship team will receive a recognition trophy, except in the year that said team retires the 3-legged trophy.

  16. If after balls from both teams have been thrown and one ball from each team are tied after it has been measured by both teams, no points will be given to either team, and the team who last had the polline will throw it again.

  17. Any ball may be measured at any time during the game.

 

In order to insure interest and enthusiasm for all teams in the leauge, the Bocce Season shall be played as follows.

 
  1. The first nine (9) weeks of play shall be round 1.

  2. The second nine (9) weeks of play shall be round 2.

  3. The winner from the first round will play the winners of the second round. Champions of the league will be the team winning three out of five games in this match.

  4. If a team wins both rounds, it is the league champion.

  5. If there are different winners for Round 1 and Round 2, then the loser of their play-off game will be the second place team. All play-off games will be 3 out of 5.

  6. In order to determine the play-off champ, Team #2 will play Team #5 and Team #3 will play Team # 4. To decide who will compete in the final match against the champion, the winnng teams of the above matches play each other, then this winner will play against the league champs in a final play-off match of three out of five games. Play-off standings are based on total season wins.

  7. In the even that one teams wins both rounds, then the play-offs will proceed as follows:

Team #2 will play Team #5 and Team #3 will play Team #4. The winners will play each other, then the remaining winner will play the league champs 3 out of 5 games for the leaugue playoff trophy.

  1. The final play-off match is to be played on the Sunday following the play-off eliminations. Said Sunday is hereby called SUPER SUNDAY and is to include refreshments at a small admission fee.

 

A set of rules and schedules are to be located in a mailbox next to the Bocce Court.
